Richard Thornton's Church of England (Voluntary Aided) Primary School is located in the rural village of Burton in Lonsdale, located at the gateway to the Yorkshire Dales, three miles from Ingleton.
Ours is a small, 2 class primary school that is open for children from the age of 4 (Reception year) to the age of 11 (Year 6). We are part of the North Yorkshire Local Authority and we are members of the Three Peaks Family of Schools, which is a cluster of primary schools in North Craven and Settle College who work closely together.
Our vision is to ensure that all pupils develop their full potential: academic, emotional, physical, social and spiritual.
We achieve this through the quality of care and the quality and range of educational learning experiences we offer to all in our school community. The small size of our school means we know each child well and can cater for their individual needs.
We provide an environment that promotes a sympathetic understanding of the Christian faith, an appreciation of difference and diversity, valuing those from different faiths and cultures. Christian values are placed at the centre of our daily life and underpin all the relationships we develop.
We attach high priority to strong links between school, home and parish, welcoming and treasuring all children from the neighbourhood.
If you would like to know more about the school, please do not hesitate to contact us, or download our School Prospectus.
We were inspected by OFSTED in November 2010. You can download the OFSTED Report to read the inspector's findings.
As a Church of England school, we are also regularly inspected to ensure that our spiritual and Religious Education provision meets the needs of our children and the standards required by the Diocese. We were recently inspected in November 2010. Read the SIAS report.
